The following is a joint press release issued by Total, ParisTech, and Ecole Polytechnique on October 11, 2011

TOTAL : Total, ParisTech and Ecole Polytechnique Introduce the Renewable Energy Science & Technology Master II, an International Cutting-Edge Degree Program

October 11, 2011: Total, ParisTech and Ecole Polytechnique Introduce the Renewable Energy Science & Technology Master II, an International Cutting-Edge Degree Program

Total, ParisTech and Ecole Polytechnique are introducing the Renewable Energy Science & Technology Master II postgraduate degree program in fall 2011, with the backing of French electric utility EDF, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Saint-Gobain and Schneider Electric.

Offering best-in-class instruction and coordinated by Ecole Polytechnique engineering school, the degree program is open to engineering, mechanics and physics graduates from the world’s leading universities. Around 40 students a year will further their education in the areas of renewable energy production, storage and distribution for careers in industry and research.

Built around major renewable energy disciplines — photovoltaics and wind and water energy, grids and storage solutions — the program leverages the academic excellence of ten ParisTech schools(1) and the expertise of internationally respected business partners.

The AFAM Silicon Valley chapter met informally over dinner on July 19, 2011 at Il Fornaio in Palo Alto.  Participants included Norvan Sahiner, Loris Dzagoyan, Arnaud Caruso, Laurent Dalla-Longa, Anais Bonito, Jean Baptiste Gariel, Michel Brun, Marc-Joseph Antonini, Benoit Altairac, Xavier Wartelle, Claude Leglise, Eric Benhamou and Guilhem Herail.

As most of the students present at the dinner are doing an internship at University of California Berkeley, there was a long discussion about the growing connections between Arts et Metiers ParisTech and this university. The students were amazed to discover the heart of the Silicon Valley,  which is a wonderful seedbed for entrepreneurs and fast growing enterprises like Facebook and Google thanks to its venture capitals and investors. This dinner was the opportunity for the San Francisco Bay Area Arts et Metiers ParisTech Students and Alumnus to meet and reinforce the friendship and brotherhood links that will make our community alive and long lasting in the USA.

Just days after the United States celebrated their 235th birthday, and also days before the Arts et Metiers ParisTech engineering school celebrated its 225th anniversary, Emmanuel Duteil, the US Chief Editor of BFM Business the leading Business information news network in France, interviewed AFAM CFO and Board Member Thomas Ferre about its activities. There, Thomas addressed the need for school to develop internationally and highlighted the success of the efforts and achievements of AFAM in its mission to support the US development of A&MPT. AFAM has long fed upon the creativity of its board members to provide more ways to support students, through increasing donations, internships, and by helping strategic academic alliances with US universities, working towards what Thomas concludes as "an increasing A&M alumni base". The media attention to AFAM's activities highlights the continued attention of the business community on the dynamic and international activities of the Arts et Metiers ParisTech engineering school.
