What is Arts et Metiers ParisTech ?

A French "Grande Ecole" or elite school for engineers, with 1,000 graduates a year
school_website_buttonThe Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers is a prestigous French engineering school. A unique institution led by a single management team, Arts et Métiers ParisTech consists of eight Teaching and Research Centers and three Institutes spread across France. It has trained over 85,000 engineers since its foundation in 1780 by the Duke of Rochefoucauld Liancourt.
It is a "Public Scientific, Cultural and Professional institution" (EPCSCP) under the authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
The engineer diploma Arts et Métiers ParisTech is equivalent to a U.S master's degree.

Primary missions: teaching and research

ParisThe primary goal of Arts et Métiers ParisTech is to provide an initial foundation in general engineering principles for the disciplines of mechanical engineering, power engineering and industrial engineering. Arts et Métiers ParisTech also offers continuing training for engineers and industry executives.

With 19 research laboratories and two PhD programs, Arts et Métiers ParisTech develops teaching and research acivities in three main fields:

  • Mechanics, materials, processes
  • Fluids and energy systems
  • Design, industrialization, risk management and decision-making

The school's training programs are completed by:

Focus on sustainable development
The values of Arts et Métiers engineers (professional skills, brotherhood and solidarity) correspond to the three pillars of sustainable development: social development, economic development and environmental protection. This means that Arts et Métiers ParisTech is the school of sustainable products and acceptable production systems.
It trains engineers who specialize in sustainable technologies, able to design products and systems that respect the environment and to manage industrial organization while controlling both risk and cost.

Arts et Métiers ParisTech has its own Contractual Research Structure (SRC), ARTS (Association de Recherche pour la Technologie et les Sciences). ARTS provides technical liaison and logistical support in relations with companies and the business world, and manages research in collaboration with the school's partners and the subsequent technology transfer.
In 2006, Arts et Métiers ParisTech and the ARTS were awarded joint approval from the Institut Carnot for their ARTS (Research Activities for Technology and Society) research structure.
